Greenfield was visited Monday by a strange looking character from out of this world! ReDuce met with all of our Dolphins to talk about saving our precious resources. The meeting was a friendly first contact and ReDuce shared many ideas about conservation.
Each one of our Dolphins should have received a flyer courtesy of JEA. The flyer is a short energy audit you can conduct at home to look at ways of saving natural resources. Start by looking at the way you use lights and the kind of lights you have. Are the lights on when nobody is in the room? We all want to be comfortable in our homes but are we TOO comfortable? What does that thermostat read today? Finally, how do we use water? Is there a leaky faucet or toilet?
We all need to do our share to conserve the resources we have. At school, it is a little warmer than some of us would like during the summer and a little cooler in the winter. Those few degrees of difference amount to huge savings when we look at over 200 school buildings. You will also notice that many of our rooms and offices have automatic lights. They come on when someone walks in and turn off after they leave.
ReDuce told our students about the new sources of energy they will grow up with. In the South, we are pretty familiar with solar panels to take advantage of sun energy. Can you imagine a forest of windmills? I saw one last year in Canada! Other parts of the world get their energy from the ocean tides. Just imagine!

We hope to see the impact that ReDuce and his buddies ReCycle and ReUse have as we work to make Greenfield a more environmentally friendly school
